Shannon Susko built Metronomics on the work of the best business thinkers of the last thirty years. Jim Collins, Patrick Lencioni, Brad Smart, Verne Harnish, Stephen Covey, Brené Brown, and others. Their ideas aren’t decoration. They’re load-bearing walls inside the system.

In the Metronomics book, Shannon prescribes a specific book for each quarter of the three-year progression. The team reads it during the quarter and arrives at the next meeting with shared language and shared understanding. By the time a concept shows up in the meeting agenda — the Five Dysfunctions assessment, the A-Player framework, the Flywheel, the Leadership Circle — the team has already done the thinking. The meeting becomes application, not education.

This matters more than most people expect. A leadership team that reads the same book at the same time builds alignment you can’t get from a summary or a slide deck. The ideas land differently when five people are processing them against the same company, the same quarter, the same problems. So don’t just assign these books — read them together. Make it a leadership team reading circle. Pick a time each quarter to sit down and talk about what you read, what stuck, and what it means for your business. The conversation is where the real work happens. The book just gives you somewhere to start.

The list below follows Shannon’s prescribed sequence from the Metronomics book. Where she assigns a book to a specific quarterly meeting, I’ve noted the month. Where the Reading List includes a book without a specific quarterly assignment, I’ve placed it at the point in the progression where the content becomes most relevant. Shannon’s three books come first — they are the system itself.

Twenty-six books across thirty-six months. Roughly one every six weeks. That’s the pace.
